Ruth Roman

 Ruth Roman (born Norma Roman born December 22, 1922 - September 9th, 1999)was an American actress in stage, film, and television.After performing in stage roles on the east coast, Roman relocated to Hollywood to make a name for herself in film. She appeared in several small roles that were not credited, before she was chosen as the lead lady in the western Harmony Trail (1944) and in the title role in the serial film Jungle Queen (1945), her first film credit performances.Roman first starred in the role of Belle Starr's Daughter as the title character in Belle Starr's Daughter (1948).She achieved her first notable success with a role in The Window (1949) and the following year, she was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year - actress for her performance in Champion (1949). She was under contract to Warner Bros. in the 1950s. There she starred in several films, including the Alfred Hitchcock thriller Strangers on a Train (1951). Roman began appearing as a guest on TV shows in the mid-1950s. She also worked abroad and produced films in England, Italy, and Spain. She was also a passenger aboard the SS Andrea Doria when it struck another vessel and was sunk in 1956. In 1959, she received the Sarah Siddons Award for her work in the play Two for the Seesaw. She was a television celebrity who earned a star on Hollywood's Walk of fame for her numerous television appearances.Norma Roman was born to Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline (nee Gold), and Abraham "Anthony” Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. Her name was changed to "Ruth" after the fortune-teller advised her mother that "Norma" was an unlucky name. Her mother was a dancer and her father a barker at a carnival sideshow which they ran at Revere Beach, Massachusetts. Ann and Eve were her older sisters.
