Ruth Roman, born Norma Roman on December 22nd, 1922 - September 9th 1999, was an American actress. Her professional career began in the east coast of America as a stage performer and moved to Hollywood to pursue a career with films. Prior to her appearance in western Harmony Trail (1944), Roman was also seen as the main character of Jungle Queen (1945), which was her first credited role. The actress was nominated for the Golden Globe Award as New Star of the Year – Actress in 1949 for her performance in Champion (1949). She was a contract actress for Warner Bros. in the 1950s. In the 1950s, she appeared in a variety of films including the Alfred Hitchcock thriller Strangers on a Train (1951). Roman also started appearing as a guest on TV shows in the mid-1950s. Roman also created films in Spain, Italy, and England. In 1956, she was an onboard passenger of the SS Andrea Doria that collided with another vessel, sinking. She was given the Sarah Siddons Award in 1959 for her role in the show Two for the Seesaw. Her many television appearances have earned her a place on the Hollywood Walk of FameNorma Roman was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, to Lithuanian Jewish parents, Mary Pauline (nee Gold) and Abraham "Anthony" Roman. The fortune-teller who advised her mother that "Norma was lucky,"" she was changed to Ruth.
