Ruth Roman, born Norma Roman on December 22, 1922 - September 9 1999, was an American actress. Her career began on the east coast as a stage actor and then moved to Hollywood to explore a film career. Prior to her appearance in western Harmony Trail (1944), Roman was also featured in the main role of Jungle Queen (1945). It was her first official role. Also, she was nominated for the Golden Globe Award as New Star of the Year as an actress for her performance in Champion (1949). The actress was contracted to Warner Bros. in the 1950s. In the 1950s, she appeared in several films including the Alfred Hitchcock thriller Strangers on a Train (1951). Roman also started appearing in guest roles on television series in the mid-1950s. She also worked abroad and made films in England, Italy, and Spain. In 1956, she was also a passenger on the SS Andrea Doria that collided with another vessel and was sunk. In 1959, she was awarded the Sarah Siddons Award for her role in the show Two for the Seesaw. She was a TV star who was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her many TV appearances.Norma Roman was born to Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline (nee Gold), and Abraham "Anthony” Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. When a fortune teller advised her mother that "Norma was lucky,"" she was given the name Ruth. Her mother was a dancer, and her father was a barker in a sideshow at a carnival which they ran in Revere Beach, Massachusetts. There were two sisters older than her, Ann and Eve.
