Alexa Meade (born 1986) is an American installation artist most well-known for her portraits painted directly on the human body and other inanimate objects in a manner which reduces the depth of her models and makes them appear two-dimensional when taken. What is left is "a photo of a picture of a person, and the real person hidden somewhere underneath." She takes a classic idea - trompe-l'oeil, which is the technique of making a two-dimensional representational painting look like the real world in three dimensions - and does the opposite creating real life appear as the appearance of a painting.Meade was born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Chevy Chase, Maryland. She graduated from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, in 2009, with a bachelor's degree in political science.Initially planning on a path to politics, she worked for senators and congressmen on Capitol Hill, and then was a press assistant for Obama's 2008 presidential campaign.
