American actor Alicia Linda "Lecy” Goranson (/'li;si/; June 22, 1974) Roseanne and The Conners, in which she plays Becky Conner, premiered in 1988 and The Conners in 1999. She also appeared in supporting roles in the films How to Make an American Quilt (1996) and Boys Don't Cry (99). Goranson studied acting in Chicago, where she was then offered the part as Becky Conner. She had auditioned for the role only two times. She played the character for five seasons, exiting the show in 1992, several episodes into the fifth season, to attend Vassar College. Her academic schedule allowed her to remain on the show in part-time roles as Becky. With her new arrangement the show's producers and writers composed scenes for Becky only sparingly. The departure of Goranson led to Becky's eloping with her partner MarkDuring the following season, the producers wanted to bring back the character. Goranson was not available and so Sarah Chalke auditioned and won the role.Chalke played Becky throughout the rest of the season and throughout the seventh season. Goranson, who was still at college, was able to play the role of Becky when the show entered the eighth season. Goranson was a guest star in the 8th season of the show, but she had to contend with schedule conflicts with her school. There were two times Goranson had to pull out of episodes in which the Becky character was needed:
