Alexandra Ruth Shipp is an American singer and actress who gained notoriety in the role of singer Aaliyah in the Lifetime television film Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B (2014) and Kimberly Woodruff in the Oscar-nominated film Straight Outta Compton (2015)Shipp is most famous for her role as Storm in the X-Men franchise, which began with X-Men: Apocalypse, Abby Suso in the romantic comedy Love, Simon, and Susan Wilson in musical drama tick the tick... BOOM!.Shipp was born in Phoenix, Arizona. Her mother is an experienced Kundalini yoga instructor as is her father, who is a musician. Her mother is white and her father is black. James and Jordan are her brothers and Kasia is her step-sister. Shipp attended Squaw Peak Elementary School as well as the Arizona School for the Arts, and St. Mary's Catholic High School in Phoenix. At the age of 17 she relocated to Los Angeles to pursue acting. In 2009, Shipp made her acting debut in a small part in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.
