Alexandra Ruth Shipp is an American actor and singer who became famous as the singer Aaliyah in the Lifetime television show Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B (2014) and Kimberly Woodruff in the Oscar-nominated film Straight Outta Compton (2015)Shipp is most famous for her role as Storm in the X-Men franchise, which began with X-Men: Apocalypse, Abby Suso in the 2018 romantic comedy Love, Simon, and Susan Wilson in musical drama tick the tick... BOOM!.Shipp was born in Phoenix, Arizona. Her mother is a Kundalini yoga instructor and her father is an artist. Her mother is white and her father is black. There are two brothers in her family, James and Jordan, as well as a stepsister, Kasia. Shipp was a student at Squaw Peak's Elementary School and the Arizona School for the Arts. She also went to St. Mary's Catholic High School. At 17 years old, she relocated to Los Angeles to pursue acting.
