Michael Jerome Oher (/o:r/; ne Williams Jr.; born May 28th, 1986) is an ex- American football offensive tackle who played in the National Football League (NFL) for eight seasons, primarily in the Baltimore Ravens. He was a footballer at the University of Mississippi. There, he received unanimous All-American honors and was chosen by the Ravens to be their first pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. The team he played with included the Tennessee Titans and Carolina Panthers.Oher's experience from his final year in high school and his first year at college was one of the topics of Michael Lewis' 2006 book, The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game, and was featured in the Academy Award-winning 2009 film, The Blind Side.Born Michael Jerome Williams, Jr., in Memphis, Tennessee, he was one of the 12 children of Denise Oher. His mother was suffering from alcoholism and crack cocaine addiction, and his father, Michael Jerome Williams, was frequently in jail. His childhood was very difficult for Williams. He re-entered classes in the first and second grades and attended eleven schools over the first nine years as an undergraduate. When he was seven the child was placed in foster care. He lived in different foster homes and had no shelter. Oher was a senior in highschool when his father was killed in prison.
