Kyrie Andrew Irving (/'kaIri/; Lakota: Hela, lit. 'Little Mountain'; born on March 23, 1992) is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was named the Rookie of the Year following being picked by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the first overall selection in the 2011 NBA draft. Seven-time All-Star and three-time member of the All-NBA Team, he won an NBA championship with the Cavaliers in 2016.Irving played in the NCAA basketball tournament for the Duke Blue Devils before joining the Cavaliers in the year 2011. Irving was awarded the Most Valuable Player award (MVP), for the 2014 All-Star Game. In the 2016 NBA Finals, Irving made the winning three-point field shot to complete the Cavaliers historical comeback against the Golden State Warriors. Irving was transferred to the Boston Celtics after he made another Finals appearance in the 2017 Finals. After playing as an Celtic for two seasons, Irving signed as a free agent with the Brooklyn Nets in 2019. He also played for the United States national team, with which he won gold at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics. In February of 2020 He was elected vice president of the National Basketball Players Association, replacing Pau Gasol
