Katharine Ross

 Katharine Juliet Ross was the daughter of Katherine (nee Mullen), and Dudley Tying Ross. She was born in Hollywood, CA on January 29th 1940. Her father, who worked as a reporter for the Associated Press, was a commander in the US Navy when she was born. Ross's father was a U.S. Navy commander when she was born. He relocated the family to Virginia, Palo Alto and eventually , Walnut Creek. Her move to San Francisco in an apartment located above a store on Stockton Street. From there she began her acting career by becoming an Actor's Workshop understudy and began auditioning for roles. She also got married in 1960 to college sweetheart Joel Fabiani, the first of five husbands.Work was quick for Ross initially, primarily in television westerns as well as Westerns would make up the bulk of her most well-known roles, her natural beauty being an asset in that genre. Ross began her TV debut on Sam Benedict (1962), while her first film role was in Civil War-era Shenandoah (1965) with James Stewart. Ross's rise to star as a leading actress started in 1967 when she co-starred with James Caan, Simone Signoret and The Graduate (1967). Ross's portrayal of Elaine earned her an Oscar nomination in the category of Supporting Actress.
