Steve Martin is a multiple award winning American actor, comedian and writer who initially was noticed as a writer for the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. His career began as a stand-up comic and he would perform his routines at local clubs. He eventually ventured into the world of television, making his debut on 'The Steve Allen Show' following which he also appeared on 'The Virginia Graham Show'. After a successful venture into the world of television, he gained a lot of recognition in the 1970s and was featured on various shows. Following his appearance on NBC's Saturday Night Live (SNL) and his subsequent appearance on SNL, he became famous and was invited to host the show fifteen times. Steve Martin's comedy album"A Crazy and Wild', were more popular. He was awarded double-platinum and was ranked 2 on the Billboard Pop Albums Chart. He had a large following and decided that the time was right to move into film. His first major film role was in a short filmcalled 'The Absent-Minded Waiter', which was nominated for an Academy Award nomination. Alongside acting as an actor and comedian, he is also a musician, and is well known by his love of the banjo
