 Scarlett Ingrid Johansson, was born November 22, 1984, in Manhattan, New York City. Her mother Melanie Sloan is from an ethnically Jewish family from the Bronx and her father, Karsten Johansson is a Danish-born architect who hails from Copenhagen. She is a sibling to Vanessa Johansson who is an actress. Her brother Adrian Johansson was born a mere three minutes after her. Hunter Johansson is a twin brother, and her paternal half-brother Christian Johansson was a Danish-born architect from Copenhagen. Her grandfather was a writer Ejner Johansson.Johansson began acting in childhood, shortly after her mother started attending auditions. She began her professional acting career at the age of eight in the off-Broadway production "Sophistry" featuring Ethan Hawke, at New York's Playwrights Horizons. She was a commercial auditionee but took rejection so hard her mother started limiting her to tryouts for film. She made her film debut at the age of nine as John Ritter's character's daughter in the comedy fantasy North (1994)
