Natalie Portman is the first person born in the 1980s who been awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress (for Black Swan (2010)).Natalie was born Natalie Hershlag on June 9, 1981, in Jerusalem, Israel. Her parents are Avner Hershlag (an Israeli-born physician) and Shelley Stevens (an American-born artist, from Cincinnati, Ohio), who serve as Natalie's agent. Both parents are Ashkenazi Jewish. Natalie's family left Israel in search of Washington, D.C., at a time when she was young. After several more moves and a few more moves, the family finally settled in New York, where she continues to live to the present day. She graduated with honors, and her academic achievements led her to enroll at Harvard University. At 11 years old she was approached by a pizza shop's agent. At 11 years old, she was encouraged to explore a career as model, but she ultimately decided she wanted to be an actor. She appeared in numerous live performances, but she made her film debut in the movie Leon: The Professional (1994) (aka "Leon"). Natalie was in the film Heat (1995), Beautiful Girls(1996) as well as Mars Attacks! (1996).
