Marin had her parents' approval while she was working in the Peace Corps. Born in Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), she moved with her family to Boston, Massachusetts when she was just four months old. The following year, her brother Mark was born. Rodney, her father, is a retired teacher. Margaret, her mother, is a judge at the Massachusetts Superior Court. Marian was a keen dancer, and she pursued her studies until the age of 16, when an injury to her ankle ended her dreams. Although she was apprehensive about her decision to go into acting, her parents nonetheless advised her to pursue her dream, however, they advised her to earn an advanced degree so that she could be able to be able to return to a teaching career in case the situation didn't go as planned. She graduated from Brown University and then enrolled at New York University, where she says she was pretty awful in her acting classes. Randall, who was a New York theatre director, was her husband. Following her successes and her husband's move to the Hollywood property they leased after a a 9-month separation.Marin had her first successes as a performer in New York theater ("Electra" and "The Tempest") and then landed small film roles, as well as guest roles on a variety of television shows before her co-starring part on Once and Again (1999). Then she was cast in the role of Judith Harper on the popular sitcom Two and a Half Men (2003) and also made a few guest roles on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999).
