A tall, strikingly beautiful natural blonde with blue eyes, Cameron Diaz was born in 1972 in San Diego, the daughter of a Cuban-American father as well as a German mother. The self-described "adventurous as well as a self-confident and tough kid," Cameron left home at 16 and for the next 5 years was in a variety of places such as Japan, Australia, Mexico, Morocco, and Paris. Returning to California at 21 she was working as model when she auditioned for a major role in The Mask (1994). In her awe, and despite not having any previous acting prior experience, she was selected as the lead female in The Mask alongside Jim Carrey. She continued to practice acting in low-budget independent films such as Feeling Minnesota (1996), The Last Supper (1995) as well as Head Above Water (1996) over the next three years. In 1997, she made her return to mainstream film with My Best Friend's Wedding (1997). Julia Roberts was her opponent. In the film, Something About Mary (1998) the actress was made a star in 1998. Her name is at the top of all lists of Hollyood's top actresses, and well-established as one of the film industry's most exciting properties and sought-after actresses, Cameron Diaz appears to have everything she needs to be one of the super stars of the next century.
