Alison Krauss

Alison Maria Krauss (born July 23rd 1971) is an American bluegrass-country singer and violinist. At the age of eight she was competing in local contests and recording her first album when she was fourteen. She signed with Rounder Records in 1985 and released her first solo album in 1987. She was invited to join the group with whom she continues to perform, Alison Krauss and Union Station, and later made her debut album as a group in 1989.Krauss has released 14 albums, and appeared on numerous soundtracks and sparked a renewed interest in bluegrass music in the United States. Her soundtracks have earned her more attention, such as the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack, and the Cold Mountain soundtrack, which resulted in her appearance at the 2004 Academy Awards. The platinum-selling Raising Sand (2006) was her first collaboration with Robert Plant. She has been awarded 27 Grammy Awards, from 42 nominations. It is fourth among classical conductor Georg Solti, Quincy Jones, and Beyonce for most Grammy Award wins. Krauss was the vocalist and female artist to win most Grammy Awards in Grammy history [until Beyonce won her 28th Grammy in 2021]. When Krauss received her first Grammy in 1991, she was the second-youngest winner of the award at the time.
