Virginia Gayle Madsen, born September 11, 1961 is an American actress. Her debut film was Class (1983), which was shot in Chicago. When she relocated to Los Angeles, director David Lynch cast her as the princess Irulan in the science fiction film Dune (1984). Madsen later appeared in a string of highly successful teenage films, such as Electric Dreams (1984), Modern Girls (1986), and Fire with Fire (1986).Madsen received additional recognition for her leading role in the film as Helen Lyle in the horror film Candyman (1992). Madsen won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Alexander Payne's comedy-drama Sideways (2004).
