Marina Sirtis (/'se:rtIs/; born on 29 March 1955) is an English actress. Most well-known is her role in Star Trek: The Next Generation as Counselor Deanna Trii. Sirtis was born in Harringay. She has claimed that her three-year-old self was sexually assaulted by her teenage babysitters. Sirtis suffered from an eating disorder, which emerged due to the trauma of the attack. After being afflicted with the disorder for a period of 20 years, she went into therapy in the 90s and was able to manage the trauma and began to eat healthy again.While at secondary school, Sirtis secretly auditioned for drama school against the wishes of her parents, ultimately being accepted to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.=In 1976 at the age 21 Sirtis graduated from Guildhall and started her professional career with the Connaught Theatre.In 1986, Sirtis emigrated to the United States, settling in Los Angeles to boost her career. Later, she became an naturalized US citizen.
