Ryan Rodney Reynolds was the youngest of the four children and was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. His father, James Chester Reynolds, was a food wholesaler and his mother, Tamara Lee "Tammy" (Stewart), worked as salesperson in retail stores. Ryan has Irish and Scottish ancestry. Ryan was a Nickleodeon actor in Fifteen (1990), which featured him alongside others Canadian actors. After the series ended in 1993, he came back to Vancouver where he played in an assortment of uninteresting television films. He was a small part of Glenn Close's Serving in Silence, The Margarethe Cammermeyer Story (1995) as well as CBS's remake of In Cold Blood (1996). His luck eventually forced him to stop acting. He met Chris William Martin, a Vancouver native actor. Martin observed that Ryan was depressed and advised him to take everything. They were headed to Los Angeles, California. They stayed at a motel in Los Angeles. The first night, Reynolds' jeep was removed from the road and rolled. Ryan drove the jeep without doors for four months. He was cast as Berg in Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place (1998). The initial ratings woes were met with criticism. The show was eventually renewed for a second season but with the promise of an overhaul by former Roseanne (1988) writer Kevin Abbott. The show was a modest success, and Ryan has been offered more roles in films, including the last MGM film The Amityville Horror (2006). Ryan got engaged to Canadian singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette in 2004-2006.
