Howard Matthew Moses Long, born on the 6th of January, 1960 is an American sports analyst. He was also a professional footballer. Long spent his entire career in the National Football League (NFL) as a defensive lineman. Selected by the Raiders in the second round of the 1981 NFL Draft, Long received eight Pro Bowl and three first-team All-Pro picks in addition to helping the team win a Super Bowl title in Super Bowl XVIII over the Washington Redskins. Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Long retired in 2000. He also pursued a career as broadcaster and actor. Long was an all-round athlete, playing football (lettered for three years and was named to the Scholastic Coach All-America team as an senior, though he never played football until age 15) as well as basketball (lettered three years as a forward) and track (lettered three years, competing in the discus, shot, as well as javelin).
