William Bret Baier (/'bret 'beI@rBret Baier (born August 4, 1970) is the host of Special Report with Bret Baier on the Fox News Channel and the chief political correspondent for Fox. Prior to being hired by Fox, he was the Chief White House Correspondent, and Pentagon correspondent. Baier went on to attend the traditional DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana and graduated in 1992 with a BA degree in political science as well as English. At DePauw, he became an active part of the Xi Chapter of the Sigma Chi fraternityBaier began his TV career at a local station WJWJ TV16 on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, prior to joining WRAL-TV, a CBS affiliate in Raleigh, North Carolina. In 1998, he submitted an audition tape to Fox News and was hired as Atlanta Bureau Chief. He drove from Georgia to Arlington in Virginia to report on the Pentagon attack on September 11, 2001. In lieu of returning to Atlanta, he was tapped to be the network's Pentagon correspondent. He remained at the job for five more years, making 11 trips to Afghanistan as well as 13 trips to other places
