The-Time-When-Derek-Redmond-Made-Everyone-Cry

As we all know by now, the Olympics are an extremely emotional experience.During the 2016 Rio Games, we've already seen a number of athletes break down in tears in front of the world, whether because of a tragic loss, or because of the overwhelming joy of claiming victory. Let's face it, these athletes aren't the only ones that require a tissue. There are eight instances of Olympic moments that have made us teary-eyed during the previous years. Derek Redmond: Redmond qualified to compete in the semifinals of the 400m at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics with the fastest heat time , and was therefore hopeful for the gold. However, something went terribly wrong at the start of the race and the British athlete was unable to finish the race due to tearing his hamstring. Redmond was in agony and continued to walk towards the finish line, assisted by Jim Redmond, his father. Tyson Gay: The Team USA sprinter went home empty handed in 2012, when he placed fourth in the 100-meter final that was dominated by Usain Bolt. But the biggest heartbreak? Gay finished 0.01 seconds behind Gay and was unable to win the gold medal by a hair. "I tried, man," Gay said at the time while tears flowed across his face. "I tried my best."
