Sigourney Weaver

Sigourney Weaver was born Susan Alexandra Weaver on October 8, 1949 , at Leroy Hospital in New York City. Her father Sylvester L. Weaver Jr. who was a producer on television originally desired Flavia to be named due to his passion for Roman history. He had already given her brother Trajan the name. Elizabeth Inglis, a British actress was her mother. She quit her job to provide for her family. Sigourney was happy living in a bubble of guilt-free bliss. She was cared of by nannies, and maids. By 1959 the Weavers lived in 30 households. Sigourney began attending the Brearly Girls School in 1961. But, her mother sent her to Chapin the private school located in New York. Sigourney was a little larger than her classmates (at the age of 13, she was already 5'10") This led to her constant being targeted and ridiculed and, in order to earn acceptance from her classmates she was assigned the role of class clown. In 1962 her family moved to San Francisco briefly, an unsettling experience for her. They moved back to Connecticut later and she was a student at Ethel Walker School. She had the same issues. She changed her name from "Sigourney" to "Sigourney" in 1963 after F. Scott Fitzgerald's character "Sigourney Howard". (Her name was her own birth name, Susan was in honor her best friend).
