Sean Connery, a tall and muscular actor from Scotland, is well-known for his role as James Bond, the first actor to play the character in the highly successful film franchise. Connery was the lead actor in seven films between 1962 and 1983. Many believed that Connery would be unable to leave the role that defined his career but he proved them wrong and was one of the most well-known film actors of his time with numerous great films to his credit. Connery received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1988 for his portrayal of an Irish police officer in The Untouchables (1987). Connery took the spotlight from Kevin Costner. Connery was polled as "The Most Beautiful Scot in the World" and "Scotland's greatest Living National Treasure". In 1989, he was proclaimed "Sexiest Man Alive" by People magazine, and in 1999, aged 69, he was voted "Sexiest Man of the Century
