Sir Paul McCartney is a key actor in the contemporary world as a composer, singer, poet, writer, artist as well as entrepreneur, humanitarian, and holder of more than 3 thousand copyrights. He is included in the "Guinness Book of World Records", for the most records, most #1s (shared), best-known song, "Yesterday," and largest paid audience for solo performances (350,000or more in Brazil in 1989). He is considered to be one of the most entertaining entertainers of all times. His father James "Jim" McCartney, was a cotton salesman and a pianist who led Jim Mac's Jazz Band in Liverpool. McCartney has Irish and English roots. The young McCartney was raised non-denominational. He was a musician and an artist, and he was a very happy child with Michael McCartney, his younger brother. When he was 11, he was one of the four students to pass the 11+ exam, known as "the scholarship" in Liverpool, and gained an admission to Liverpool Institute for Boys. The institute was his home from 1953 until 1960 and was awarded an A-level in English and Art.
