Mariska Hargitay, an American actress, is well-known for her role in the sex crime detective, Olivia Benson' on NBC's famous show Law and Order: Special Victims Unit'. Her performance as the character has earned her many awards and nominations. With acting in her blood Hargitay's breakthrough in film began early in her career when she made her debut in the film 'Ghoulies'. After a memorable performance in this film, Hargitay was cast in a recurring role on the highly-rated series "ER" before being given the role of 'Olivia Benson. Hargitay, a strong and fiercely competitive actor, was determined to do her best in every role she was given in her career. She was also adamant about making her own stunts for films. Contrary to her mother who had established herself as an'sex-symbol' as well as a Playboy Playmate in the United States, Hargitay opted for a slightly different approach in her quest to become an actor. She refused to follow her mother's path and was sure that her acting lessons would land her extraordinary parts in her career and so it did. Acting aside, she is also the founder of the "Joyful Heart Foundation", which provides aid and assistance to sexually assaulted girls and women.
