Kevin Michael Costner was born on the 18th of January in 1955, in Lynwood, California, the third child of Bill Costner, a ditch digger, and later an electric line servicer for Southern California Edison, and Sharon Costner (nee Tedrick) as an employee of the welfare system. Dan Costner, his older brother, Dan, was born in 1950. In 1953 his younger brother, Dan passed away due to the childbirth. Kevin considered himself an Army kid because his father was constantly moving. This made him be a daydreamer , and to always being the youngest kid at school. As a teen He sang in the Baptist church choir, wrote poetry and took writing classes. He constructed his own canoe when he was 18 and sailed down the rivers Lewis & Clark had followed to the Pacific. He stood 5'2" tall when he left high school. Yet, he managed to become a football, basketball and baseball player. He enrolled at California State University in Fullerton in 1973, to pursue a business degree. Kevin began taking acting lessons five times a week during that time. He received a bachelor's degree in business in 1978. He later married his college sweetheart Cindy Costner. He initially took a marketing job in Orange County. He met Richard Burton, an accidental meeting during a flight to Mexico.
