Kat Dennings was born Katherine Victoria Litwack in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia near Philadelphia, to Ellen (Schatz), a speech therapist and poet, and Gerald Litwack, a molecular pharmacist. The youngest child of five. Her family is Russian Jewish. Kat was predominantly home-schooled and graduated at the age 14. Kat was raised in a household and completed her education at the age 14. The actress later gained a bit of fame by playing the roles she played in The House Bunny (2008) and Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008).
