Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris, France, to British parents, Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. They relocated to Oxfordshire when she was five, and went to the Dragon School. From the age of six, Emma knew that she was going to become an actor and, for a number of years, she studied at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part-time theatre academy where she was taught acting, singing and dancing. When she was ten, Emma had already performed as the lead in Stagecoach productions. In 1999, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (1901), the film adaptation by J.K. Rowling, was cast. Casting agents stumbled upon Emma through her Oxford theatre instructor. After eight auditions David Heyman informed Emma and Rupert Grint that they were chosen to play Hermione Granger as well as Harry Potter. Emma's first cinematic screen appearance was with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001).
