Cate Blanchett was born May 14th, 1969 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, to June (Gamble) who is an Australian teacher and property developer, as well as Robert DeWitt Blanchett, Jr., an American advertising executive, born in Texas. She has an older brother and a younger sister. When she was 10 years old older, her father of 40 years died of a sudden heart attack. The mother of her child never got married and her grandmother came in to assist her mother.Cate graduated from Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Art in 1992, and in less than a year, had won both critical and popular acclaim. After graduation from NIDA she was cast in Sydney Theatre Company's production Caryl Churchill’s "Top Girls". She then played Felice Bauer, who was Felice's bride in Tim Daly's "Kafka Dances" winning the 1993 Sydney Theatre Critics Circle Newcomer Award. Then, Blanchett moved to the character as Carol in David Mamet's searing polemic "Oleanna"
