Angela Bassett

 Amazing, talented and dazzling Her presence has been felt at theaters and on stages as well as on television screens around the world. Angela Evelyn Bassett is a New York City native, born to Betty Jane Gilbert who was a social worker and Daniel Benjamin Bassett (a preacher's boy). Bassett along with her sister D'nette lived in St. Petersburg, Florida with their mother. Betty was a single mother was adamant about the importance of in education of her children. Bassett was able to enroll into Yale University with the help of a scholarship. She graduated with a B.A. in 1980. Yale University awarded her a B.A. in African-American Studies. She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Yale School of Drama in 1983. Bassett met Courtney B. Vance at Yale in 1983. She was a 1986 Drama School graduate. Bassett first appeared on The Cosby Show (1984) as well as Spenser: For Hire (1985) however she made headlines for a variety of TV roles in the 1990s. Bassett was amazed to play Tina Turner in What's Love has to Do With It (1993) the film that marked her debut role. Bassett was awarded an Academy Award nomination for her performance, as well as she also won a Golded Globe Award as Best Actress.
